Volunteer

RESTART’S team of committed volunteers help support our guests on a weekly basis. Their energy and passion shape the charity’s atmosphere and enable our space to feel welcoming, safe and genuine.

If you are interested in volunteering, then read about our different volunteer roles below and get in touch!

Drop-In

Our drop-in is an ideal way to respond to the immediate needs of guests and contribute to tackling homelessness.
 
Drop-in duties may include:
  • setting up
  • welcoming / signing guests in
  • helping in the kitchen with food prep. and cooking
  • serving food and drinks
  • chatting and befriending guests
  • signposting to important services (for example, Day Centres, Night Shelters)
  • organising and distributing donations of clothes and other provisions
  • cleaning and clear-down
  • any other skills, such as, arts & crafts, social media support are welcome.
 All volunteers will enjoy a meal with guests and be able to take time to get to know one another.
Board games are a popular ice-breaker!

Mentoring

Mentors are instrumental in supporting a guest through important stages of our programme, in overcoming challenges and in reaching their full potential.
 
Mentor responsibilities include:
  • One-to-one meetings with guests
  • Setting goals, creating action plans and giving advice
  • Accompaniment to appointments
  • Signposting to key services (e.g. counselling, debt advice)
 Mentor skills:
  • Excellent communication
  • Good listener / empathetic
  • Reliable and responsive
  • Able to motivate and encourage positive thinking

Fundraising

If you like the work we do and want to help raise awareness, then get involved with any of our events or choose your own fundraising activity.
Some possible ideas for you:
  • RESTART’s annual SleepOut- could you sleep one night outside to raise awareness of homelessness?
  • Car Boot Sale- have a clear out and give to a good cause!
  • Come dine with me- healthy competition with friends to raise money for homeless people.
  • Pub Quiz- arrange a charity evening and get a team together.
  • Work- a coffee morning, a prize draw or even a sponsored silence!
