Many people have asked about how to get involved with RESTART and we’re thrilled to hear that so many of you have been inspired!

Here are just five ideas for how to help our small charity have a big impact on homelessness:

1. Volunteer with RESTART

We rely heavily upon the time and skills of our amazing volunteers, and volunteering your time is a valuable way to help our small team to deliver its support programmes. Subscribe to our newsletters and updates to find out about the latest volunteering opportunities coming up or get in touch with us to ask about giving your time to help Restart Lives.

We always need volunteers for our weekly Friday night drop-in at St. Columba’s – please click here to enquire about coming along for the first time or re-joining us. You’ll need to have a simple induction and then there are plenty of roles you could choose between, from serving food to welcoming guests, and we support our volunteers with ways to befriend and engage our guests at the drop-in. We also welcome our former guests if they wish to return to volunteer at RESTART.

We’re currently looking for new mentors ahead of Christmas, a couple of volunteers to help with our social media and communications, a photographer – and look out for befriending roles we’ll be advertising ahead of this Christmas too.

2. Make a regular donation

If you’d like to make a regular donation, you can set that up via, or please contact us directly about how to set this up directly if you prefer. We’d be happy to talk to you about where your money would go.

3. Shop for us!

We have an Amazon wish list, with items from coffee cups to crisps to phone credit, starting from £2. If there are items you’d like to help us with year-round, that would be a wonderful way to support our everyday needs and programme delivery.

Better still, please use the Amazon Smile URL and choose Restart Lives: so, whenever you make an eligible purchase from Amazon via Amazon Smile, Restart Lives will benefit at no additional cost to you.

4. Share your skills

Is there something you’re particularly good at or do you do something for a living that involves skills our guests might be able to benefit from learning?

We’re often looking for people to come along and help with our employability support group (Ready, Steady, Work!) so please get in touch if you’d like to help occasionally or regularly – we’d love to have a chat about what you have in mind.

5. Corporate and employer partnerships

We are looking for businesses to partner with in delivering our employability support programmes (work experience or employment for guests, for example), as well as working with us on projects, helping with the basics that underpin a small charity, from space for our services to professional advice.

Please contact Nicola if you or your business would be interested in finding out more.
