On Saturday 23rd November, we trialled a new project called ‘RESTART on the Road’.
The aim of the initiative is to head out, on a Saturday evening, into London to feed rough sleepers who may have a more limited choice of services at the weekend.
On this run, we had a team of 7 staff and volunteers. Chef, Roman, cooked a range of delicious and wholesome hot meals including meatballs, chicken and a vegetable and potato medley! We pitched up at Lincoln’s Inn Fields around 7pm, simply popped up our ‘food station’ table and quickly saw an orderly queue forming. 30 minutes later, we had greeted people and served about 100 meals.
Not only was it great to meet new faces and invite them to our weekday drop-in, but it also spurred us to get out there again to contribute to hot food options for the homeless at weekends.
