We had 2 excellent training days, in March and April, for those that were interested in becoming a mentor for a RESTART guest.
Mentors guide their mentees, encourage and support them through any obstacles or challenges they may be facing in their lives; for example, sourcing safe accommodation options, registering and securing universal credit/benefits, searching and applying for jobs, improving their well-being and mental health and, essentially, just ‘being there’ for guests as a constant support.
The training was lead by Kay Lawrence (psychotherapist) and Dahlia Parkinson (Employability Coordinator at the 999 Club) who both have a wealth of experience in the sector and taught us extremely useful information about how to best support homeless guests through multiple challenges.
We had a fantastic turnout of 16 volunteers, 5 trustees and 2 staff and are looking forward to the next stage of the programme – mentor interviews and matching!
